Character NAME: Shirley Fenette
Canon & MEDIUM: Code Geass (anime)
Canon PULL-POINT: post-death
Character AGE: 18
Character ABILITIES: None. She's an ordinary human.
Character HISTORY: Shirley @ the Code Geass wiki
Character PERSONALITY: Shirley is, first and foremost, an average girl. She works hard, maintains good grades in school, is one of the star athletes of her school's swimming team, and is a member of the student council to top it all off. Cheery and optimistic, it's rather rare to see her without a smile on her face. She can be quick to anger though, and often ends up irritated or exasperated by the antics of her fellow student council members. Even so, Shirley's anger is a type that passes easily, as righteously furious as it can be at times; quick to anger and even quicker to forgive, she's not really one to hold grudges. In love, she's what you'd expect from a teenage girl: she gets flustered when she thinks about her crush, sometimes has a hard time talking to him, and gets just a bit jealous when other girls get close to him. Really, she's just your everyday girl, a kind and compassionate young woman.
Her kindness, however, is one of her most forefront traits—in a time and place where discrimination is a national policy, Shirley is always there with an outstretched hand. No matter who the person or what society would rather have her believe, she's willing to be friends with just about anyone. When Suzaku Kururugi, a native Japanese or otherwise known as an 'Eleven,' transferred to her school, the rest of the student populace was too afraid to even say anything. Shirley, however, walked straight up to him and introduced herself, thanking the boy for helping her friend earlier. She doesn't let herself be controlled by things like prejudice or racism and makes her own judgement on people. The current world politics may not be something she's personally interested in, but when it comes to people personally, she's not afraid of any labeled stereotypes. However, it is also a failing of hers—Shirley is too kind, too trusting. Her views of the world and ignorance of its current state could be seen as downright naive, and she makes the fatal mistake of trusting someone who disliked her enough to kill her.
When it comes to the people she cares about, Shirley is willing to do anything to protect them. She takes up a gun more than once for the sake of protecting someone else; while she could never pull the trigger for the sake of a cause or revenge or anything like that, if it's for the sake of protecting someone, she will do what she believes she must. At the same time though, her kindness often makes this impossible for her to bear, and she never gets the chance to learn how to cope with it. When she believes that she killed another human being for the sake of protecting the boy she loves, Shirley practically crumbles underneath the pressure of it. Even though she loved him, she protected the man responsible for the death of her father; the combined pressure nearly made her run away from everything, the only thing stopping her being an outside force. Her willingness to do whatever it takes also leads to recklessness; rather than stay outside in safety, she won't stop to rush headfirst into sure danger if someone she cares for needs her help.
It is through that one can tell exactly how compassionate and loving Shirley is. Her motivations most often come from her caring for someone, whether it was something that made her mad, happy, or sad; she wouldn't react the way she does if she didn't really care. Others may see it as hopelessly naive, but her optimism and faith in other people leads to one thing. Shirley believes that nothing, absolutely nothing, is unforgivable. She was willing to forgive Lelouch for killing her father, taking away her memories, lying to her—everything. When it comes to matters of anger and being hurt, she's rather perceptive. During a conversation with Suzaku, he told her that there were some things Lelouch did that were completely unforgivable. However, she quickly and easily pointed out that it wasn't that what Lelouch did was unforgivable, but rather Suzaku just wasn't willing to forgive him. Shirley is the kind of person who could never act out of revenge or bitterness or any other negative emotions like those; she may try to, but at the end of the day it simply isn't in her nature. She has the strength and capacity of heart to look past those and come to forgive.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Shirley will be bringing the gun she was holding as she died. By nature she isn't much of a fighter, so the connection between her and the gun would weaken. However, she has always been willing to shoot to protect; should such situations arise for her during her time in Exsilium, her aim and steadiness while holding the gun will improve for better accuracy when shooting.
Character INVENTORY: Shirley will be bringing her cell phone, her wallet, the gun, and the clothes on her back. She didn't have too much on her when she died.

First PERSON: So, I guess we're expected to help this place out now, right? I can't say that I really felt like I had much of a choice honestly, but before that--this might be a bit of a strange question, but, well... Is there any place I can get a good change of clothes at? I, ah, wasn't exactly dressed my best when I wound up here. [There's a nervous laugh, if only because she's still SOAKED IN HER OWN BLOOD. Not being dressed her best is definitely an understatement, but she won't be cuing anyone in on that seeing as how there's a voice function.] It would help me a lot if someone could tell me where a store might be. Oh, right! And my name is Shirley Fenette. Thanks in advance for any help.
... actually, there's just one more thing. [A pause, because this is a lot more awkward of a topic to bring up. Still, she can't help but be curious given her own circumstances.] This isn't some kind of afterlife, is it?
Third PERSON: It was strange, to say the least. Well, actually, that single word couldn't even begin to cover the ray of emotions Shirley was currently feeling, but it was a start. After all, it wasn't everyday that you were suddenly kidnapped and whisked away to a mysterious place you knew nothing about. It also wasn't everyday that you were asked to fight for an even more mysterious cause--and not even asked at that! Shirley woke up and was told probably the bare minimum of what she was supposed to do, and just like that, she was supposed to believe it. The moment she opened her eyes, this entire experience had been nothing but strange.
And of course, that wasn't counting the fact that she had apparently come back from the dead.
Shirley groaned, shifting her gaze towards the sky as she attempted to sort out her thoughts. She didn't know what she was expecting when she closed her eyes for what she was sure was the final time, but it definitely wasn't this. You could've given her a million guesses as to what the afterlife was, and not a single one of them would be "fight for a mysterious resistance force". What was that all about? Besides, if they were looking for fighters, surely they were looking at the wrong person. While she was more than aware that she was willing to pull the trigger for Lulu's sake, she had little doubt in her mind that she couldn't... That she refused to kill or even hurt someone for something like this, something she knew nothing about.
Still, as she turned the gun (the gun that killed her in fact, or at least what she was pretty sure was her murder weapon; as if that didn't make the whole thing more awkward) around in her hand, she was alive. This gun was real, and so was the fact that she was actually breathing. If she owed that to these people, strange and mysterious as they were, well... Then didn't she have to pay it back somehow? At the very least, she knew she didn't want to waste this life that she had been given back.
Sighing, Shirley rested her chin in her hand as she looked down at her clothes. She even came in with the blood-soaked shirt she had died in.
Yep, this was about as strange as you could get.
